Cut The Cord From the simple to the sophisticated, the Interlink RemotePoint RF Combo, a wireless keyboard/remote control solution, is designed to meet all of your presentation needs. This “everything but the kitchen sink” presentation package consists of the VersaPoint RF Wireless Keyboard, the RemotePoint RF remote control, RemotePoint RF presentation software, and the USB receiving base unit. The receiving base is hot-pluggable and uses the 900 MHz radio band to communicate to the cordless keyboard and remote control, so you don’t need a line-of-sight connection from these devices to the base. This combo allows you to sit anywhere at a conference table and command either a notebook or a desktop computer connected to any type of display. The awkward keyboard setup, however, offsets the presentation combo’s convenience. Installation consists of plugging the receiving base into your computer’s USB port and turning on the PC. Windows Plug-and-Play will automatically identify the Combo devices and install the required drivers. The receiving base and keyboard can be set to one of eight different RF addresses, an option that was designed to allow the unit to operate in the same radio frequency space as other RF units in its location without interfering with them . . . . The receiving base draws its power from the USB connection. The keyboard runs on four AA batteries, and the handheld remote requires to batteries. The Combo is designed so that the transmitter goes into a sleep mode when idle, which reduces power consumption. According to the documentation you can expect to get up to six months of use on a single set of batteries. Despite the frugal power consumption, the Combo is stronger than one might expect . . .  The other part of this wireless combo, the handheld remote, is similar to those included with many data projectors. In addition to a touch pad and buttons, it has a laser pointer and four controls. The controls are programmable with the RemotePoint RF software on the bundled installation CD. The software also supports digital zoom, so enlarging portions of the projected image is easy . . .  The RemotePoint RF Combo offers a welcome array of wireless choices for giving a presentation. Some people may find the keyboard too cramped for everyday use, but the freedom from cable clutter that it delivers may outweigh this nuisance.

Presentations Magazine Standing Ovation Award Last year, Interlink’s RemotePoint snagged the best remote award; this year the company packaged the remote with a VersaPoint wireless keyboard to grab the award again. The receiver’s ability to hold as many as eight separate address pairs (eliminating interference from other keyboards and remotes in other rooms) and to provide through-the-wall control of 100 feet is truly impressive. What’s more, the combo pack requires no drivers and works with any Windows or Macintosh system through a USB port.
